Foreign Literature

The Bpi's collection of foreign literature consists of more than 57,000 works, with more than half of them in their original language. They include books in Arabic, Chinese, English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

All literature is represented in the Bpi collection, some of it in both the original language and in translation, some only in French, but always paying attention to the diversity of the literary landscape. They include works written by "classical" authors, by well-known authors, as well as new forms of literature, with very modern texts. All literary forms are also represented, with particular attention to drama and poetry.

The Bpi has chosen to build up collections of foreign literature where the numbers of original texts and translations are not equal. Often texts in the original language have been preferred. This choice makes it possible to be aware of the importance of an author still relatively unknown in France, and to discover modern works by presenting texts that are not yet available in French.

The translations of French literature have been collected together and are stored on a specific row of shelves on Level 3 of the Library, in sector 8, near the information counter.
