Film Projections

Documentary films, because of the diversity of their forms, are particularly adapted to the development of a critical analysis of images. At the projections and the debates that follow them, film producers, film critics, or teachers are invited to give personal insights into the films.
The projections seek to highlight the permanent collection of films and the national Catalogue of documentary films for libraries. They also fulfil a need to inform and train the general public, by enabling them to discover films which are not shown often enough in cinemas or on television.
"Cinéma du réel"
- The "Cinéma du réel" Festival
In March 2008, this international festival, created by the Bpi, has celebrated 30 years of existence. It has become, in March each year, an unparalleled rendez-vous of the documentary film which it explores in all its many forms, showing and demonstrating the "documentary side" of films.
The series proposed:
- "Regards critiques" ("A critical look" at documentary films)
Since 2008, in co-operation with the "Forums de société" of the Pompidou Centre. Each series is led by a critic, a teacher, a programmer or a professional from the film world, who over several sessions presents his conception of films, projecting his reference films and commenting on them. - "Relire avec... Écrivains à l'écran" ("Read again with... Writers on the screen")
Series of projections/conferences organised by the Bpi in co-operation with the "Revues parlées". A well-known person from the world of culture (writer, philosopher, composer) is invited to choose a film by affinity with the author in question. The projections are accompanied by a conference or a dialogue about the author and his work. - Month of the documentary film
Every year, the Bpi participates in this national event which makes it possible, during one month, to explore a subject or to highlight a film producer (Nicolas Philibert in 2009). The projections are enriched with encounters and debates.
