Discover the Bpi
The Library closed its doors on 29 September 1997 so that renovation work could start. Part of the collections were installed in temporary premises at 11 rue Brantôme, so that the documentation remained partly accessible to users during the renovation.
The Bpi-Brantôme opened on 19 November 1997, with a space of 3,000 m2 and 600 reading places.
As a result of the lack of space, the collections made available were reduced to the purchases of the last five years. In addition, there was a wide range of works of reference, including dictionaries, encyclopaedias, directories, etc.
Also available was the complete collection of CDs, a large selection of "Self-Learning" software, as well as press files (in binders or computerised), and work-stations with access to Internet.
The Bpi-Brantôme closed at the end of August 1999.

At the same time, the Bpi modernised its documentation and services in preparation for its reopening:

After the closing of the "green" Library, and before the opening of the "plum-coloured" Library inside the Pompidou Centre, the Bpi mixed its colours in its provisional premises on rue Brantôme.

Director of the Bpi from 1993 to 2001, Martine Blanc-Montmayeur describes the projects which were undertaken in the Library during the 1990s.
She recalls (in French) the preparation of the new Bpi in the framework of the renovation of the Pompidou Centre, the moving of the collections to Brantôme, and the work involved in the renewal of the computer system.
