The Mission on Reading and Disabled Persons is involved in several co-operation activities with libraries that are developing services designed for persons with disabilities.

 Actions:

  • Run the collective ALPHABib website,
  • Share its experience in receiving disabled persons, and develop services adapted to their needs in the Bpi and in other public libraries,
  • Ensure that materials proposed by libraries are available in digital form (for example the virtual visit to the Bpi),
  • Keep track of developments in this field, spread information and contribute to the training of librarians in this area,
  • Organise training sessions in co-operation with the libraries that are most active in this field,
  • Enlarge the Base de Données de l’Edition Adaptée, a bibliographical database of works that can be accessed by persons with sight impairments,
  • Organise visits and training courses for librarians on accessibility issues,
  • Present the needs of libraries within the Culture & Disability Commission.
