bandeau wiki alpahabibThe Bpi, with support from the Book Directorate and in co-operation with several libraries (BNF, Toulouse, Limoges, Chambéry, Montpellier …), has created the ALPHABib service on-line. It is available at the following address:  http://www.alphabib.fr/

Why?

This instrument of co-operation aims to develop a network of library workers who are the most involved in receiving persons with disabilities:

  • by creating an interactive database that is accessible and can be modified, in order to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience
  • by promoting working together and a pro-active reflection concerning the evolution of tools and technologies, methods and practice.

 What it offers:

  • A tool-box: practical and technical leaflets on how to recognise different forms of disability and to identify the specific needs of disabled persons, lists of measures designed to improve how they are received in libraries, on how to organise library reception procedures and share good practice, collections of articles from the press specialised in this field…
  • The monitoring of technology: presentation of equipment, help in finding innovative technologies and systems that assist persons with disabilities, and on how to use them in libraries.
  • Adapted collections: news about the world of adapted publishing, an inventory of the accessible digital libraries but also a reflection about such issues as resources for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, digitalisation in libraries, the new DADVSI and its impact on library services designed for persons with disabilities...
  • Activities: How to ensure that the activities that libraries organise are accessible for persons with disabilities? Organisational and technical aspects, proposals for mobile or co-operation projects, inventory of innovative experiments…
  • Evaluation tools and results: relating to services that libraries provide.
