The Bpi pursues a policy of active co-operation at the national level and proposes different services and tools to public reading libraries.

Created in 2002, the Co-operation and National Action Mission was integrated in 2009 into the Co-operation and International Relations Department.

This department gives priority to innovative projects that seek to improve services for the public and that fulfil its objectives. The activities undertaken are based on both the strong points of the Bpi and on partnerships with public bodies.

Public reading establishments are priority partners

Depending on the nature of the project, the Bpi develops partnerships with other public reading establishments. The projects are conceived according to the different needs and areas of competence of the partners and seek to optimise the means available. The Bpi contributes its expertise and participates in the co-ordination of the projects.

Large establishments (like municipal libraries with a regional scope), regional book structures and departmental lending libraries are obvious partners in the various projects but the whole range of public reading bodies can contribute to them.

Professional organisations are key relays

The Bpi belongs to different organisations: the Inter-Regional Book and Reading Federation (FILL - Fédération Interrégionale du Livre et de la Lecture), the Association of Directors of Municipal and Inter-Communal Libraries of Large French Cities (ADBGV - Association des Directeurs de Bibliothèques municipales et intercommunales des Grandes Villes de France), and the Association of Directors of Departmental Lending Libraries (ADBDP - Association des Directeurs de Bibliothèques Départementales de Prêt). Every year, the Bpi participates in the Fair organised at the time of the Congress of the Association of French Librarians (ABF - Association des Bibliothécaires français).
