Would you like to learn, improve or practice French? Discover what the Bpi has to offer to help you practice on your own.

Self-training area

It offers free, no-reservation access to the multimedia booths in the space, where you can consult audio methods and online platforms for learning French.

You can come to the Autoformation desk on level 2 during library opening hours every day except Tuesday. The librarians will reserve a session for you and can help you choose your method.

French conversation workshops

They are aimed at non-French speakers learning French.

  • Premiers pas en français workshops (beginner level)

Introduction to oral communication: role-playing, simulations, dialogues and work on documents available in the Self-Training area.
Every Friday from 1 pm to 2 pm.
Registration on the same day, 15 minutes before the workshop, at the Autoformation desk, level 2.

  • FLE conversation workshops (intermediate level)

Discussions led by a librarian on a given topic.
Every Friday at 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm.
Registration on the same day, 15 minutes before the workshop, at the Autoformation desk, level 2.
And every Monday at 5 pm online, with registration on Eventbrite.

  • FLE conversation workshops at the Centre Pompidou museum (intermediate level)

Discussions based on artwork chosen from the museum’s collections.
Every second and fourth Friday of the month at 4 pm.
Registration on the same day, 15 minutes before the workshop, at the Autoformation desk, level 2.

  • FLE writing workshops (intermediate level)

In a friendly atmosphere, a writer stimulates your imagination to write, in French, stories related to current events.
Every first Friday of the month from 7.30 pm to 9 pm.
Registration on the same day, 15 minutes before the workshop, at the Autoformation desk, level 2.

  • FLE theater workshops (intermediate level)

In a friendly atmosphere, an actress proposes theatrical games and improvisations that stimulate oral practice and imagination. Sessions are built independently of each other.
One Friday a month from 7:30 to 9 pm.
Registration on the same day, 15 minutes before the workshop, at the Autoformation desk, level 2.

  • Ciné FLE (intermediate level)

Screening of a French film with French subtitles, followed by discussion.
Once a quarter on Fridays at 6 pm.
Registration on the same day, 15 minutes before the workshop, at the Autoformation desk, level 2.

Easy-to-read and understand space

The Bpi offers a Facile à lire (FAL) collection for people with literacy problems and French language learners at level 2 of the library. The aim is to offer an approach to reading with books whose layout, content and vocabulary are simple, but not simplistic, and selected from current publishing output.

Cultural activities and mediation

The Bpi offers tailored mediation programs for groups learning French to help them discover the highlights of its cultural program, including exhibitions and the Effractions festival of contemporary literature. Writing or artistic expression workshops, meetings with authors, digital workshops…
